Alleged Party Truncation: Akwa Ibom Governor Urged To Caution PDP Ex-National Legal Adviser

GOVERNOR UMO ENO

Ahead of the local government elections in Akwa Ibom State slated for October 2024, a section of people in the state under the aegis of Maintain Peace For Etim Ekpo, MP4EE, today, asked the state governor, Umo Eno, to call to order the immediate-past National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Emmanuel Enoidem.

The request came consequent upon allegations by the group that the PDP stalwart, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, is on a mission to truncate the reign of the party in the local government area.

While also calling on the governor to intervene in the local politics of Etim Ekpo local government area, MP4EE, in a statement endorsed by its Publicity Secretary, Comrade Solomon Udobong, and made available to THE NEWS ACCELERATOR NETWORK, maintained that “if Enoidem succeeds in having his way in the local government elections in Etim Ekpo, which is autocratic and selfish, it could lead to crisis and death of PDP in the area, with extended effect on the entire party structure in the whole of Akwa Ibom.”

EMMANUEL ENOIDEM (SAN)

Concerning the rationale for the fear, the group stated: "The political leader of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, Emmanuel Enoidem, SAN, has vowed to install candidates with bad track records, who have been generally rejected by the majority of the people of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, as the chairman and councillors in the local government council in the forthcoming elections.

"Recall that Emmanuel Enoidem has ceded the zoning meant for the Uruk clan to the Utu clan, intending to present his stooge and house boy, Mr Gideon Uwah, from the Utu clan.

“Through his yes-men in the Etim Ekpo PDP Elders Forum, a purported communiqué has been issued to facilitate the perpetuation of his evil plans.

"It should be noted that the said Emmanuel Enoidem manipulated the party processes and Governor Udom Emmanuel during the 2022 PDP primaries to produce rejected and non-popular aspirants in the various constituencies in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district and the masses, who do not have access to the corridor of power to express themselves, revolted with their votes at the polls.

"It took the intervention of God through some neutral persons to deliver the governor and the state House of Assembly members in the senatorial district.

"The autocratic leader is noted to have been concentrating political empowerment and political appointment on his family and that of the Uwa's, where his age-long aide belongs.”

For a glance at the concentration of political offices in the Enoidem and the Uwa families, the MP4EE presents the picture thus:

1. Chief (Barr.) Michael Lazarus Uwa - House of Representatives Member, 1992.

2. Hon. Kingsley Lazarus Uwa - Councilor Etim Ekpo Ward 3 from 2003 to 2007.

3. Hon. Godson Lazarus Uwa - former Transition Committee Member — 2003

4. Hon. Godson Lazarus Uwa - Transition Committee Chairman, Etim Ekpo LGA - 2015 - 2016.

5. Arch. John Uwah - Supervisor, 2008–2010.

6. Gideon Uwa - 2024 — The political leader insists on imposing his PA against the wish of the people as a mark of compensation and settlement for having served him for 20 years as an errand boy.

The statement further stated: "The people therefore call on the PDP in Akwa Ibom State and the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno to advise Enoidem to refrain from using the destiny of Etim Ekpo Local Government to settle the Uwa's family on whatever accord or covenant he has with the Uwas.

"Meanwhile, since the people cannot gain access to the Government House and the state party leadership to express their concerns, the majority of the people of Etim Ekpo Local Government Area have been advising the Party and the governor to caution Enoidem to desist from acts that will generate fury to the masses as that may lead to another protest at the poll in future elections if Enoidem is allowed to manipulate the process again and install rejected candidates as chairmen and councillors in Ikot Ekpene senatorial district during the forthcoming Local government elections.

"We are maintaining our position through this statement; hence we hereby call on the governor and the Akwa Ibom PDP leadership again not to allow Enoidem to remain an Emperor in Etim Ekpo.

"He should be advised to allow the natural zoning of the local government to prevail, for peace and equity to reign.”
