The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has been suspended.
She was suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu with immediate effect, over an alleged N585m scandal in the Ministry.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Tinubu, Ajuri Ngelale, said it is in line with the president’s avowed commitment to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the management of the commonwealth of Nigerians.
Moreover, President Tinubu ordered the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to conduct a thorough investigation into all aspects of the financial transactions involving the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as one or more agencies thereunder.
Consequently, the fired minister has been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, and cooperate with the investigating authorities as they conduct their investigation.
