Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) was on Wednesday informed by the Lagos State Government (LASG), that it had witnesses to defend its terrorism claim against the 'Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate', Frederick Nwajagu.
It would be recalled that the 67-year-old Nwajagu was arrested in April by the Department of State Services (DSS) sequel to a viral video allegedly implicating him in what was alleged to be a terror-related offence.
In the video, the Igbo monarch was seen allegedly threatening to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos, to secure the properties of Igbo people in the state.
However, the LASG on May 9, 2023, through the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyo Onigbanjo arraigned Nwajagu on a nine-count charge bordering on the alleged offence in a suit marked LD/21505C/2023.
According to the LASG, Nwajagu’s action contravened the Terrorism (Prevention & Prohibition) Act 2022.
While proceedings lasted on the criminal case, counsel to the LASG, Jide Martins, told the court, among others, that he would invite additional witnesses, adding that he had served some relevant documents on the defence.
Responding, counsel for the defence, Emeka Obiagu (SAN) confirmed to the judge that he was served the documents “only on Wednesday morning” and had not gone through them.
Consequently, Justice Adesanya adjourned the case until July 25 for trial to commence.
