Unlawful Dealing In Marijuana: Ex-convict Jailed 5 Years

For unlawfully dealing in 200 grams of Cannabis Sativa, popularly called Marijuana, a 20 years old ex-convict, Wasiu Tajudeen, was on Monday convicted and sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa of an Ikoyi Federal High Court.

The judge arrived at the decision after Tajudeen pleaded guilty to a count charge of unlawful dealing in the prohibited leaves, as made against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

It would be recalled that the NDLEA through its counsel, Lambert Nor had informed the court that the convict was arrested with the banned weeds on July 2, 2022, at Abule-Odu, Egbeda, Lagos State.

Nor specifically informed the judge that the offence contravenes Section 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and is punishable under the same Act.

While stating that the convict is a serial drug dealer, who had once been convicted and sentenced to a year imprisonment by Justice Abdullahi Liman, the prosecutor tendered the conviction warrant dated January 29, 2020, as issued by Justice Liman against the convict.

Upon admitting the conviction warrant, Justice Lewis-Allagoa sentenced the convict to five years imprisonment without an option of fine.
