Alleged ₦110.4bn Kogi Fraud: Witness Reveals Tax Commission Kickbacks to Revenue Officials Under Bello

A prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, has told the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja that his company paid between 50–60 per cent of its consultancy commissions to officials of the Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KSIRS).

Testifying before Justice Maryanne Anineh on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s (EFCC) eighteenth witness (PW18) disclosed that the payments were made through both bank transfers and cash transactions, allegedly on the directives of former KSIRS Chairman, Senator Yakubu Oseni, and his successor, Aliyu Nda Salami.

The EFCC is prosecuting Bello alongside Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu on a 16-count charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering involving ₦110.4 billion.

The witness explained that his company, which specialised in tax automation and advisory services, was initially entitled to a 15 per cent commission on collections exceeding ₦350 million, which was later reduced to 5 per cent.

He confirmed that withdrawals followed large inflows from KSIRS accounts and transfers to third parties, including property firms and other companies, often executed by signatory Jami’u Salihu.

Another witness, Bureau de Change operator Jamilu Abdullahi (PW19), also testified, identifying several companies linked to transactions under investigation.

Justice Anineh adjourned the trial to October 14, 15, 27, and 28, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
