Lagos, Nigeria — A senior manager with First Bank Limited, Nnedimma Arah, has been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos over allegations of forgery.
The State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, presented Arah, who manages the Dosunmu Branch on Lagos Island, as the sole defendant in Charge No. FHC/L/582C/2025.
The amended charge, dated March 30, 2026, accused Arah of forging a letter of undertaking purportedly issued by Freshborn Industries Limited to cover foreign exchange differentials.
The alleged offence reportedly occurred between January 2023 and January 2024.
Justice Daniel Osiagor, who presided over the court, struck out the name of co-defendant Temitope Ogheneteme following advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), leaving Arah to face trial alone.
The prosecution alleged that the forged document was intended to be presented as genuine, to the detriment of Freshborn Industries Nigeria Limited and its representatives.
The offence, according to the prosecution, remained punishable under Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
But Arah pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million with one surety.
The trial is scheduled to commence on July 14 and 15, 2026.
The case stemmed from a $400,000 credit facility dispute between First Bank and Freshborn Industries, which is also the subject of a pending civil suit before the Lagos State High Court.
However, First Bank had argued that the criminal proceedings amount to an abuse of process, insisting the matter is commercial in nature.
