FG Files Treason, Terrorism Charges Against Retired Military Officers, Police Inspector, Others


Abuja, Nigeria — The Federal Government has filed a 13‑count charge before the Federal High Court in Abuja against six individuals, including retired senior military officers and a serving police inspector, over their alleged involvement in a coup plot and acts of terrorism.  

The defendants are Major General Mohammed Ibrahim Gana (rtd), Captain (NN) Erasmus Ochegobia Victor (rtd), Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani

They are scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.  

Also named in the charge but currently at large is former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.  

The charges, signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, allege offences ranging from treason and terrorism to suppression of intelligence and money laundering linked to terrorism financing.  

According to the prosecution, the defendants conspired in 2025 to levy war against Nigeria to overawe the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, an offence under Section 37(2) of the Criminal Code. 

They are also accused of failing to disclose security intelligence and neglecting to prevent treasonable acts.  

Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim and Zekeri Umoru allegedly participated in meetings tied to terrorist activities, while others are accused of providing support for terrorism and withholding critical intelligence.  

Financial transactions linked to terrorism financing form part of the charges. 

Bukar Kashim Goni is accused of retaining ₦50 million, Abdulkadir Sani ₦2 million, Zekeri Umoru ₦18.8 million, and Inspector Ahmed Ibrahim ₦1 million, all allegedly proceeds of unlawful activities.
