The Ansar-ud-Deen Society of Nigeria has congratulated elder statesman and legal luminary Lateef Femi Okunnu on his 93rd birthday, describing him as a national treasure whose life embodies service, integrity, and visionary leadership.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National President, Mosediq Adeniji Kazeem, on behalf of members worldwide, the Society commended Okunnu’s enduring contributions to national development and the growth of the organisation.
Okunnu, who turned 93 on February 19, 2026, was praised for his distinguished public service career, including his tenure as former Federal Commissioner of Works, as well as his continued role as a respected voice on national issues.
The Society noted that as a trustee and elder, his guidance has significantly shaped its direction over the years.
It highlighted his donation of a large parcel of land to the organisation as one of his landmark contributions, explaining that the property has become a major source of funding for the repositioning and expansion of its programmes.
Beyond the land donation, the group acknowledged his numerous acts of support, mentorship, and philanthropy, noting that his influence continues to inspire generations of members across Nigeria and in the diaspora.
According to the statement, Okunnu is also widely regarded as a mentor to young people and a custodian of Nigeria’s history, particularly for his detailed recollection of events that shaped Lagos and the country at large.
His wealth of knowledge and experience, the Society said, has consistently provided guidance not only within Ansar-ud-Deen but also in broader national discourse.
The organisation further recognised his contributions to educational development, including his support for Summit University, describing his impact on the institution as lasting and meaningful.
“As the Society celebrates this remarkable milestone, we pray for continued health, joy, and divine blessings for Alhaji Lateef Femi Okunnu,” the statement read, expressing appreciation for what it called his lifelong commitment to faith, community development and national service.
The Society reaffirmed its admiration for Okunnu’s legacy of integrity and leadership, noting that his example remains a beacon for current and future generations.
Okunnu, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and recipient of the national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), is regarded as one of the country’s most respected legal minds and elder statesmen.
