Tax Titans: Dangote Cement Wins Nigeria's Most Tax-Compliant Organisation for Second Consecutive Year

For the second consecutive year, Africa’s cement manufacturing behemoth, Dangote Cement Plc, has been officially recognised as Nigeria's most tax-paying compliant organisation by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The recognition, awarded during the FIRS Special Day at the recently concluded 2025 Lagos International Trade Fair (LITF), held at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos, demonstrates the company's unwavering commitment to fiscal responsibility and national development.

Dangote Cement, a subsidiary of the Dangote Group, received the award in the Large Taxpayer Group category, following a rigorous and collaborative selection process undertaken by the FIRS and tax controllers across various jurisdictions.

This recognition highlights the cement giant's operational excellence and high standards of tax compliance in the country.

Accepting the honour, Mrs Mojisola Ogunlade, Dangote Cement Group Head, Tax and Compliance, said the award is a strong affirmation of the company's long-standing dedication to transparency, accountability, and timely tax compliance.

"This recognition is a testament to our dedication to meeting all compliance obligations and contributing to national growth.

“We remain committed to strengthening our partnership with the FIRS and aligning with the standards that support a transparent and efficient tax system,” Mrs Ogunlade stated.

She expressed profound gratitude to the FIRS for the recognition, noting that such awards motivate private organisations to uphold their civic responsibility and serve as an example for others.

The Group Head also stressed the significant tax contribution of the parent company, Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), noting that the entire conglomerate had paid over N402 billion in taxes in 2024, solidifying its position as the highest taxpayer in the country.

Mrs Ogunlade attributed the company’s success in compliance to the implementation of world-class processes that strictly align with tax laws and regulations.

These measures, she explained, emphasise strict adherence to statutory timelines and aim to eliminate the costs associated with non-compliance.

“The Dangote brand is always committed to fostering a culture of tax compliance. This reflects our corporate responsibility to support government efforts in providing essential public goods and services for citizens,” she added, concluding that the award serves as further motivation to sustain the company's leadership in corporate governance and economic progress.

In her remarks, Dr Lovette Onanuga, Director of the Taxpayers Service Department at FIRS, emphasised the significance of the annual recognition ceremony.

She described the event as a vital moment designed to honour corporate organisations whose consistency and cooperation are instrumental in driving the nation's revenue goals.

Dr Onanuga noted that the FIRS relied on inputs from tax controllers to identify outstanding taxpayers, with compliance, timeliness, and professionalism being the core criteria for selection.

“Your partnership as taxpayers is essential to helping FIRS fulfil its mandate as the government agency responsible for tax collection and remittance.

“That is why we deemed it important to recognise your commitment in this special way,” the FIRS Director concluded, reiterating the tax authority’s appreciation for the private sector's role in national economic sustenance.
