Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Kayode Oladipupo Filani, has refuted reports linking him to a recent court-ordered forfeiture of properties allegedly connected to former Nigerian Army Properties Director, Major General Mohammed Umar.
Filani, while addressing journalists in Lagos, described the reports as false and malicious, stressing that neither he nor his company was mentioned in the court proceedings.
Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, on August 26, 2025, ordered the forfeiture of assets and shares traced to Umar, listing 26 companies allegedly connected to the retired officer.
However, the judgment did not include Filani’s name and firm.
“It is shocking that my name appeared in viral media reports when it was never in the court documents.
“I do not own shares in any of the listed companies. This is a failed attempt to tarnish my reputation, but I remain unshaken,” Filani said.
He urged the public to disregard the false publication and vowed to seek redress against those who deliberately misrepresented the facts.
