FirstBank Partners E1 Lagos GP to Host Nigeria’s First-Ever Electric Powerboat Race

In a groundbreaking move set to boost sports, tourism, and culture, First Bank of Nigeria Limited has announced its partnership with the organisers of the E1 Lagos GP, Nigeria’s first-ever all-electric powerboat racing championship, scheduled to take place from October 3 to 5, 2025.

Speaking at the E1 Lagos GP Stakeholder Immersion Session in Lagos, Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communication at FirstBank, emphasised the bank’s unwavering commitment to driving development and fostering lasting legacies through sports.

“Our involvement in the E1 Lagos GP is about driving legacy and enabling the passions and aspirations that unite Nigerians.

“Sports bring people together, and through our First@Sports initiative, we continue to invest in platforms that inspire and elevate communities,” Ijabiyi stated.

Stressing FirstBank’s long-standing support for sports, Ijabiyi cited the Georgian Polo Cup, which the bank has supported for 105 years, and the Lagos Amateur Open Golf Championship, now in its 64th year.

Aligning with its annual December IssaVybe campaign, FirstBank aims to create immersive experiences for customers during the festive season by blending culture, entertainment, and lifestyle.

“As presenting partners, we are offering customers and prospects a world-class experience that reflects the vibrant essence of Lagos,” Ijabiyi added.

Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, hailed the event as a milestone that will showcase Lagos’s dynamic culture while positioning the state as a global sports destination.

The championship will feature teams owned by global icons such as Tom Brady, LeBron James, Didier Drogba, Will Smith, Marc Anthony, Steve Aoki, and Rafael Nadal, with the season culminating in Miami, USA.
