A prominent Nigerian cleric, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has called on the Nigerian Army to adopt a more aggressive strategy against terrorists and bandits.
The Founder and Leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church urged the military to launch a sustained three-week campaign of massive drone and airstrikes to "decapitate" the groups.
Primate Ayodele, in a recent statement, emphasised that the strikes must be consistent and powerful enough to prevent Boko Haram and bandits from controlling any local government area.
"Nigerian Army, I want to recommend to the Chief of Army Staff that he must use drones and airstrikes for the next three weeks and it should be very massive to get hold of Boko Haram so that they won't be able to take any local government," he said.
The cleric commended the current Chief of Army Staff, noting that under his leadership, no local government has been held hostage by terrorists or bandits.
While expressing confidence that the Nigerian Army will win the war, he offered a strategic warning against large military convoys, which he said could be vulnerable to attacks.
He advised the military to prioritise extensive surveillance before any major movement to prevent a "black day" where troops could be killed.
According to Primate Ayodele, the army should concentrate its efforts on specific states, including Adamawa, Katsina, Niger, and Benue, to target and eliminate major kingpins.
"The terrorists are within the communities, they must work seriously on these states," he said, adding that such a focused approach would help disrupt any plans the groups may have.
"The army will win this war, but they should not allow the Nigerian army to die," Primate Ayodele added, voicing concern for the safety of commanders and troops.
He reiterated the need for a change in strategy, advising against large, dangerous convoys and advocating for thorough surveillance.
He concluded with a prayer, expressing his belief that the Nigerian Army and its leadership would ultimately be victorious.
