Popular Fuji musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, widely known as K1 De Ultimate, has refuted allegations of unruly conduct during a flight boarding incident at the Abuja airport, insisting that he was the victim of an unnecessary escalation.
The incident, which occurred on August 5, is currently under investigation by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
In a statement released by his media aide, Kunle Rasheed, Kwam1 dismissed reports that he breached aviation protocol or endangered passengers while attempting to board a ValueJet flight.
He described the viral narrative as "exaggerated" and "misleading."
According to the statement, the liquid substance that drew the attention of security personnel was plain drinking water handed to him at the airport lounge.
Kwam1 claimed that despite his respectful attempts to clarify the situation, it was "unnecessarily escalated."
The Fuji legend also rejected claims that he disrupted airport operations, stating, "Claims that K1 blocked the aircraft or attempted to disrupt operations are completely unfounded."
He emphasised his extensive experience as a frequent traveller who strictly adheres to aviation protocols.
In a surprising revelation, Kwam1's statement disclosed that ValueJet's management, including its Chairman and Managing Director, personally apologised to him for the incident.
The airline executives reportedly offered to fly him to Lagos on a private jet as a gesture of goodwill, an offer he graciously declined.
"If indeed there had been anything inappropriate in his conduct, the Head of Airport Security, officials from relevant agencies such as FAAN and NCAA, as well as the Chairman and Managing Director of the airline, would not have reached out personally to appeal, tender apologies, and even go as far as arranging a private jet," the statement argued.
Kwam1 further addressed the situation of the pilot involved, whose license has been suspended, suggesting she may be attempting to "deflect blame" by "lying to cover herself up."
He described himself and his personal assistant as the only ones directly involved in the incident, noting that a few concerned passengers who witnessed the event appealed for calm, recognising the undue pressure he was under.
The musician concluded by urging the media and public to base their judgment on facts rather than sensationalism and assumptions, adding that he remains a law-abiding citizen cooperating with authorities to resolve the matter.
