The Youth Party has rejected the outcome of the Lagos State Local Government Elections held on Saturday, July 12, describing the entire process as shambolic and blatantly rigged in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Sunday and signed by Francisco Doregos, Chair of the Youth Party’s Lagos Chapter, the party thanked its supporters across the state and accused the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) of supervising electoral fraud and widespread voter suppression.
“Expectedly, the Lagos State Local Government Elections were shambolic and blatantly rigged against our candidates with reckless and shameless abandon,” the statement read.
The party alleged that LASIEC was compromised from inception, claiming the appointment of “openly competitive APC politicians” as commissioners had destroyed the commission’s neutrality.
It also cited several violations of electoral laws, including LASIEC’s failure to issue proper election notices, display the voters' register, and ensure the deployment of standard voting technology such as card readers and the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).
On Election Day, the party reported cases of ballot stuffing, multiple thumb-printing in Ward B of Lagos Island, and delays or non-delivery of materials in Eti Osa.
It further dismissed LASIEC’s reported voter turnout of 20–30% as “grossly inflated,” claiming actual turnout was below 5%.
Despite the irregularities, the Youth Party said it outperformed other opposition parties in areas where it contested and vowed to make a considered decision on challenging the outcome.
“We were obviously the preferred party without rigging,” said the statement.
