Anti-Crime Push: Ondo Approves Death Penalty for Kidnappers

In a decisive effort to combat kidnapping and violent crimes, the Ondo State Executive Council has approved the death penalty by hanging for individuals convicted of kidnapping.

State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Kayode Ajulo, made this known after the Council meeting chaired by Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa in Akure.

He described the move as a vital step in a broader strategy to eliminate criminal threats across the state.

Ajulo posited that kidnapping and cultism pose severe risks to public safety and order, stressing the need for tougher laws.

He announced plans to transmit proposals to the House of Assembly for legislative backing, including a provision to sentence convicted kidnappers to death.

The Council also resolved to repeal outdated laws on kidnapping and introduce new measures, such as demolishing properties used as hideouts by criminals.

“These bold steps will go a long way in restoring peace and stability to our communities,” Ajulo said, adding that improved security would help drive infrastructure development and enhance grassroots governance.
