Dangote Pledges N15 Billion to Kano Varsity, Offers Jobs to Top Graduates

Nigeria’s foremost industrialist, Aliko Dangote, has made waves again with the announcement of a N15 billion donation to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Kano State.

The billionaire philanthropist, who was also reappointed as the Chancellor of the institution during its 5th convocation ceremony, unveiled a bold five-year development plan aimed at transforming the university into a world-class hub of innovation and research.

Addressing thousands of graduating students, dignitaries, and guests, Dangote said the university must evolve into a leading institution capable of delivering cutting-edge research and highly skilled manpower suited for the realities of modern industries.

“In the next five years, we will commit N15 billion to various projects. These include new student hostels, a world-class engineering laboratory, a multipurpose computer lab with 24-hour internet access, and a mini-solar plant to support the electricity supply,” Dangote revealed.

The development plan also includes the construction of a befitting Senate building for the university’s administration and a promise of automatic employment slots for the best-performing graduates in engineering and related disciplines.

These graduates will be absorbed into Dangote’s flagship operations, including the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Plant and Dangote Cement facilities.

Acknowledging the burden on public institutions, Dangote emphasised the importance of private sector support for education.

Through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the business tycoon said he has consistently stepped in to ease financial constraints at ADUSTECH.

We recently offset the university’s electricity bills and built two hostel blocks for male and female students with a 500-bed capacity each.

“To further boost power supply, we connected the institution to a 33kva line, provided a 2.5 MVA transformer, and six step-down transformers, ensuring steady electricity for teaching and research,” he noted.

Dangote also praised the institution’s journey since its inception 25 years ago.

“From a humble beginning with just 88 students, the university now boasts over 21,877 students.

“Today, we celebrate 18,000 graduates, a remarkable milestone,” he declared.

In his remarks, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, lauded Dangote’s contributions to education and national development, calling him a visionary and an “illustrious African industrialist.”

The Vice Chancellor of ADUSTECH, Prof. Musa Tukur Yakasa, also highlighted the university’s academic progress over the past decade.

He noted that 18,000 students were graduating from the institution between 2013 and 2023. He mentioned the university’s achievements in program accreditation and innovation, including a digital model for measuring deforestation density, developed by a student, Mahmoud Mubarak.

The convocation ceremony was also a moment of recognition for other prominent Nigerians, as honorary doctorate degrees were awarded to notable figures, including businessman Chief Arthur Eze, Max Air founder, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, legal luminary Ahmad Adeniyi Raji (SAN), and oil magnate Al-Mustapha Ado, founder of Amasco Oil.
