Dangote Foundation Distributes 30,000 Bags of Rice to Vulnerable Residents in Osun

In a significant show of support to ease the growing food insecurity in Nigeria, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of 30,000 bags of rice to the most economically challenged residents of Osun State.

The initiative is part of the Foundation’s ongoing National Food Intervention Programme aimed at reaching one million vulnerable Nigerians across all 774 local government areas of the country.

The distribution exercise in Osun was officially flagged off at the weekend by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who lauded the philanthropic effort of Africa’s leading industrialist, Aliko Dangote, and his foundation. Represented by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Otunba Tola Faseru, the governor described the intervention as timely and critical, especially in the face of rising food prices and economic hardship across the country.

“This generous intervention will go a long way in alleviating the food crisis facing our people, particularly the most vulnerable groups.

We appreciate Aliko Dangote and his foundation for their commitment to improving lives and fighting hunger. Together, we can build a prosperous society for all,” Governor Adeleke stated.

The 30,000 10kg bags of rice are being distributed to a wide range of vulnerable groups across Osun’s local government areas.

These include persons with disabilities, the elderly, motherless babies’ homes, youth organisations, farmers, artisans, and other economically disadvantaged groups.

The governor emphasised the importance of sustained collaboration with the Dangote Foundation in delivering relief to those in need, highlighting his administration’s own palliative efforts in response to the national economic situation.

Speaking on behalf of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Victor Ejiro reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting Nigerians facing hardship.

“Osun is dear to the heart of our chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. This intervention is part of our Annual National Food Programme, which aims to reach one million vulnerable Nigerians in 2025.

“This rice distribution is a direct response to the economic realities affecting our people, and we are determined to provide some level of comfort during these trying times,” Ejiro said.

Also speaking at the event, Olaniran Akanfe Atidade, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture, described the rice distribution as a crucial step in tackling hunger and poverty.

He praised the Dangote Foundation for its generosity and called on other well-meaning Nigerians and organisations to emulate the gesture.

Beneficiaries and representatives of the various groups expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Dangote Foundation.

Some noted that the support came at a critical time when many households are struggling to afford basic food items due to the rising cost of living.

The rice distribution in Osun is part of a broader national campaign launched by the Aliko Dangote Foundation in March 2025.

The initiative began with high-profile flag-off ceremonies in Kano and Lagos states and is expanding steadily to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Aliko Dangote, the Chairman of the Foundation, had earlier emphasised the importance of empathy and compassion, especially during the holy month of Ramadan when the programme was launched.

“The distribution of rice symbolises our commitment to upholding the values of compassion and solidarity that are at the core of our humanity.

“This initiative is a crucial step in alleviating the economic challenges facing our nation,” Dangote said.
