•As PCC Urges Tinubu, APC Leaders to Intervene, Restore Internal Democracy
Tensions are escalating within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agege and Orile-Agege as the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in the area has accused the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, of monopolising the party’s internal structures and undermining democratic principles.
At a press conference held in Agege, PCC spokesperson Adetunji Akinyemi alleged that Obasa had transformed the APC into a “private fiefdom,” where loyalists dominate all levels of the party’s decision-making machinery, leaving no room for opposition or dissent.
According to Akinyemi, the recent local government primaries held on May 10, 2025, were riddled with irregularities.
“The results being circulated are nothing short of fiction. They do not reflect the votes, voices, or will of APC members in Agege and Orile-Agege,” he said.
He accused Obasa’s camp of orchestrating the entire process to favour a single faction, “Obasa Movement”, while sidelining other aspirants.
The PCC claimed that nomination forms were denied to candidates not aligned with the Speaker, and all major positions, including chairmanships and councillorships, were awarded exclusively to his loyalists.
“Under Obasa’s control, APC in Agege has ceased to function as a democratic institution.
“Ward executives and party officers have become mere rubber stamps for predetermined decisions,” Akinyemi said.
The group also condemned what it described as a culture of suppression and fear within the party, where dissenting voices are punished, and political ambition is only rewarded when tied to absolute loyalty.
In a particularly scathing criticism, the PCC cited Obasa’s alleged plans to install his son as his political successor, describing it as “provocative, undemocratic, and toxic to party unity.”
“The imposition of his son is the final straw. It is a dangerous and selfish move that undermines everything the APC stands for,” Akinyemi declared.
Despite their dissatisfaction, the group reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
However, it insisted that loyalty to the party should not be mistaken for complicity in what it sees as injustice.
“Our resistance is not driven by envy or bitterness. It is based on principle and a desire to restore fairness and justice to our party,” Akinyemi said.
The PCC further rejected reconciliation efforts led by Obasa’s camp, calling them insincere and ineffective. “No genuine dialogue has taken place,” Akinyemi said.
Calling for urgent intervention, the group appealed to the APC’s State Working Committee, National Working Committee, and Board of Trustees to act decisively to halt the Speaker’s alleged excesses.
“There are two political blocs in Agege APC today: the Obasa Movement and the APC membership. The former seeks control; the latter demands fairness,” the PCC stated.
“This is not just about politics,” Akinyemi concluded. “This is about our home and our legacy. We are ready to reclaim our party,” he added.
