The family of esteemed Nollywood veteran, Taiwo Hassan, widely recognised by his stage name ‘Ogogo’, has issued a heartfelt public appeal for urgent medical direction as the actor battles stage four cancer.
The plea was made public on Monday via a social media post by the actor’s daughter, Kira Taiwo. In her message, she confirmed that the 66-year-old screen legend is currently confronting a severe health crisis, specifically stage four cancer.
In a notable departure from typical fundraising requests, Kira emphasised that the family is not soliciting financial donations. Instead, they are urgently seeking professional medical guidance.
The family is calling for recommendations regarding standard hospitals, specialists, and advanced treatment centres, both domestically and internationally.
“We are not seeking any financial help. We just need him to be back on his feet medically because he has a strong will to live, but the doctors have refused to give him chemotherapy,” Kira stated.
She also revealed that Senator Adeola Yayi, the actor’s uncle, has been actively providing financial support, easing the burden on the family.
The actress further implored the public to share the information widely to connect the family with medical experts who could review Hassan’s medical files and advise on viable treatment options.
“If you know someone who knows someone in the oncology space or a medical avenue that can assist, please reach out to us,” she added.
Taiwo Hassan is a cornerstone of Yoruba-language cinema, boasting a career spanning several decades as an actor, producer, director, and screenwriter.
This health scare comes after a public confession in 2025, where the veteran actor spoke candidly about suffering from a chronic ulcer that severely impacted his eating habits and work.
As of press time, details regarding the type of cancer or the hospital where Hassan is currently receiving care have not been publicly disclosed.
