Mohbad: Group Petitions Tinubu Over Alleged Murder Cover-Up, Warns of Political Consequences

A human rights group, Break the Silence Foundation, has called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in what it describes as a deliberate cover-up in the investigation into the death of Nigerian hip-hop star Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.

In an open letter dated April 11, Nollywood actor and activist Yomi Fabiyi, speaking on behalf of the group, accused the police of suppressing vital video evidence that allegedly proves Mohbad was murdered.

According to Fabiyi, the video, featuring a homicide confession and eyewitness testimony by the late artist’s younger brother, has been available on TikTok since December 2024 but has been ignored by investigators.

He alleged that law enforcement may be acting under “orders from above” to bury the evidence and shield high-profile individuals implicated in Mohbad’s death.

“No public will accept a government or police institution that openly shields alleged murderers,” the letter stated, warning that continued suppression of justice could spark public outrage.

Fabiyi cautioned that if unresolved, the issue could resurface during the next election cycle and be used to undermine the credibility of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“At that point, nobody should underestimate the power of the people,” he wrote.

The letter urged President Tinubu, known for his ties to the entertainment industry, to act swiftly and decisively.

“If this can be done to one of us, it means it can be done to any of us,” Fabiyi added, speaking on the collective vulnerability felt within the industry.

The letter concluded with a call for justice: “The youths are observing, the student union is expectant, the industry is waiting, and the world is watching.”
