Dangote Foundation Feeds 60,000 Families, Brings Relief to Fire Victims in Jigawa and Taraba

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has provided critical food aid to victims of a recent fire disaster and other vulnerable groups in Jigawa and Taraba States, feeding over 60,000 families as part of its ongoing National Food Programme.

A statement from the Dangote Group’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, revealed that the Foundation distributed 500 bags of rice and 100 mats to fire victims in the Batakashi community, Garki Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The relief came in the aftermath of a devastating inferno that razed more than 45 houses, 35 silos, and numerous livestock, leaving many residents displaced and in dire need.

In addition to the emergency response, the Foundation also supplied 40,000 bags of 10kg of rice to poor and physically challenged residents across Jigawa State.

Acting Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Muhammad Murtala, described the donation as a “timely intervention,” praising the Foundation’s consistent support for vulnerable populations.

Residents of Batakashi expressed deep gratitude, with one of the beneficiaries, Mr Umar Abdullahi, stating that the Foundation had brought much-needed succour to the community.

Another recipient, Mr Usman Auwal, said, “Since the tragedy, the community has never been the same. This support is a beacon of hope.”

Garki LGA Chairman, Mr Adamu Kore, who oversaw the flag-off of the distribution, also commended the Foundation and the state government for their swift response.

“The donation has brought relief not just to our people in Garki, but across other communities as well,” Kore said.

In Taraba State, the Foundation further extended its food relief programme, donating 20,000 bags of 10kg rice to vulnerable families through the state government.

The presentation was made by ADF representative Bello Dan Musa to the 16 Local Government Chairmen and cabinet members of the Taraba State government.

Dan Musa reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting poor and underserved communities, noting that giving back to society remains a core mission of its founder, Aliko Dangote.

Receiving the items on behalf of the state, the Chairman of the Taraba State Palliative Committee, Alhaji Saleh Sa’ad, lauded the Foundation’s generosity and pledged equitable distribution to those most in need.

The rice distribution forms part of the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s Annual National Food Programme, which aims to feed over one million families across Nigeria.
