Dangote Foundation Expands Food Relief Initiative, Targets 1 Million Nigerians in 10 States

The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has intensified its efforts to combat hunger across Nigeria, expanding its 2025 Food Intervention Programme to 10 states.

The initiative, valued at ₦16 billion, aims to distribute over one million 10 kg bags of rice to vulnerable Nigerians across 774 local government areas.

Thousands of bags of rice have already reached Kano, Lagos, Bauchi, Nasarawa, Niger, Abuja, Katsina, Borno, and Gombe States, with more states expected to receive their consignments in the coming weeks.

Flagging off the 2025 Food Relief Initiative in Kano, ADF Chairman Aliko Dangote reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting the government’s hunger-alleviation efforts and providing direct relief to millions of struggling Nigerians.

Chief Executive Officer of ADF, Mrs Zouera Youssoufou, highlighted that this is the second edition of the Foundation’s food relief programme.

She emphasised that the initiative reflects Aliko Dangote’s compassion for the poor and vulnerable and serves as a response to the country’s ongoing economic challenges.

“This programme is a demonstration of Mr Dangote’s commitment to alleviating hunger and improving the lives of Nigerians, particularly those most affected by the current economic realities,” Youssoufou said.

ADF Trustee Mariya Aliko Dangote echoed this sentiment, stating that the Foundation remains resolute in its goal of ensuring that no Nigerian goes hungry.

In Bauchi State, 25,000 bags of rice have been delivered, with distribution plans ensuring that each local government area receives 500 bags.

An additional 10,000 bags will be allocated to mosques and churches to support both Ramadan and Lenten fasting periods, while 5,000 bags will be shared among critical stakeholders.

Similarly, 30,000 bags were delivered to Niger State, where Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba assured that a government committee would oversee a fair and transparent distribution process.

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule expressed deep appreciation for the 30,000-bag donation, assuring that immediate distribution would commence to provide timely relief.

The Emir of Keffi, Dr Shehu Chindo Yamusa III, also praised the initiative, offering prayers for the continued success of Dangote Industries Limited.

In Lagos, the Foundation donated 80,000 bags of 10kg rice, the largest single-state allocation in the programme so far.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, commended Aliko Dangote for consistently prioritising the welfare of Nigerians.

“Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian who has chosen to make a difference,” Sanwo-Olu said.

“This generous donation shows his leadership goes beyond business; he is actively committed to improving lives,” he added.

Dr Hamzat further noted that the donation aligns with the spirit of Ramadan and Lent, reinforcing the importance of charity and compassion during this season.

According to Mr Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Corporate Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, the food distribution is being carried out in collaboration with state governments to ensure that aid reaches those who need it most.

“This monumental intervention reinforces the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s dedication to humanitarian service,” Chiejina stated.

“Millions of Nigerians are struggling with economic hardship, and we are determined to offer much-needed respite,” he added.
