ILUSEC ’96 President, Mourns Passing of Father at 83


The ILUSEC ’96 family, an alumni arm of the Ilupeju Secondary School Old Students Association, has been thrown into mourning following the death of Alhaji Yusuf Babatunde Okunnu, the father of their President, Engineer Kazeem Okunnu.

Alhaji Yusuf passed away in the early hours of Saturday, November 23, 2024, at the age of 83. 

He was laid to rest later that day following Islamic rites at his residence in the Ikotun-Abaranje area of Lagos State.

Reflecting on his father's life and legacy, Engr. Okunnu described Alhaji Yusuf as a devout Muslim and a compassionate leader. 

“My father lived a very fulfilled life as a devout Muslim and dedicated his life to serving Almighty Allah. 

“He was the Chief Imam of the Nawair-Ud-Deen Society, Mushin/Oshodi Branch, Lagos State, where he empowered many people through his knowledge,” he said.

Engr. Okunnu also highlighted his father's commitment to philanthropy and community service. 

“He will be greatly missed for his impact on society and especially the community he lived in,” he added.

Alhaji Yusuf Babatunde Okunnu was revered for his contributions as a cleric and his dedication to uplifting the needy and less privileged. 

His passing marks the end of a remarkable era of selflessness and religious leadership.

In honour of his memory, an 8-day Fidau prayer will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. at his residence in Ikotun-Abaranje, Lagos State. 

Family, friends, and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life.

Alhaji Yusuf’s legacy of faith, service, and compassion lives on in the lives he touched and the family he nurtured.
