Dangote Cement Ibese Hosts Senior Citizens with Medical Aid and Gifts

In a remarkable display of community support, Dangote Cement's Ibese Plant organized the 2024 edition of its annual “A Day-Out with Senior Citizens” program, catering to 17 host communities in Ogun State.

The event, held over the weekend, offered free medical check-ups, medications, and mobility aids, including wheelchairs, to the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

The initiative is part of Dangote Cement's ongoing commitment to social investment, designed to enhance the health, wellbeing, and quality of life of senior citizens in its host communities.

Speaking at the event, Ibese Plant Director, Roy Uttam emphasized the company’s dedication to fulfilling its Community Development Agreement (CDA) and going beyond its provisions.

“Our social investment strides are making meaningful impacts in the lives of people across our host communities.

“This event is a testament to our commitment to improving health and promoting emotional and mental wellbeing among the elderly,” Uttam said.

He highlighted the inclusion of mobility aids for people with disabilities as a significant addition to this year’s program.

Senior citizens attending the event engaged in physical exercises, health talks, and received food and household essentials such as rice, beverages, soaps, and detergents.

They also benefited from cash incentives, with the event fostering a sense of connection and community spirit.

Group Head of Social Performance at Dangote Cement Plc, Mr. Wakeel Olayiwola, emphasized the importance of recognizing the foundational contributions of the elderly.

“This program ensures that our senior citizens remain active and feel valued,” he said.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the initiative, with Pa Michael Oderinlo from Ijako-Orile community commending Dangote Cement for prioritizing the welfare of older adults.

Another beneficiary, Modupeola Olaoluwa Bankole, who received a wheelchair, described the donation as life-changing, noting that it had given her a renewed sense of independence.

Dangote Cement collaborated with Novia Hospital Services, a local healthcare provider, to deliver medical services, aligning with its local content initiative.

Uttam reaffirmed the company’s commitment to building a shared vision of peace and prosperity with the host communities.

The event marks a significant milestone in Dangote Cement’s efforts to bridge social gaps and enhance the lives of its host communities, reinforcing its reputation as a socially responsible corporate entity.
