Justice Obiora Egwuatu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday granted bail to 76 #EndBadGovernance protesters.
The protesters, largely minors aged 12 to 15, were previously detained and faced 10 charges, including terrorism and an alleged attempt to overthrow the government.
In delivering the ruling, Justice Egwuatu stipulated a total bail amount of N760 million, requiring each defendant to pay N10 million.
The judge set stringent conditions for the defendants' release, requiring two sureties for each.
One of the sureties must be a Level 15 civil servant, while the other must be a parent of the respective defendant.
The court outlined specific documentation for the sureties, including letters of last promotion, letters of appointment, valid identification, and verifiable addresses.
Additionally, each surety is required to deposit their international passport and passport photographs with the court registrar and to swear an affidavit of means.
Justice Egwuatu emphasized the importance of adherence to these conditions, stating, “The defendants are granted bail in the sum of N10 million each, with two sureties in like sum.
“One of them must be a Level 15 civil servant and the other a parent to the defendant.
The charges against the young protesters have stirred significant public interest, as they relate to the #EndBadGovernance movement that has resonated deeply among Nigerian youths.
