An immediate investigation of bribery allegations levelled against some officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, has been ordered.
The order was issued by the Chairman of the EFCC, Ola Olukoyede.
It would be recalled that the convicted Okuneye had alleged in a video powered by a blogger, Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, that some unnamed officers of the EFCC collected the sum of ₦15m from him to drop money laundering charges against him.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday, a spokesman for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, posited that the EFCC boss had constituted a team of investigators to look into the allegations.
Oyewale said, “To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery.”
The anti-graft agency gave the assurance that the allegations would be thoroughly investigated and the result of the findings made public accordingly.
Bobrisky was sentenced in April to six months imprisonment without an option of fine for abusing the Nigerian currency – naira.
