Naira Marley, Sam Larry Goes To Court Over Continued Detention In Police Custody

•Wants N40m Damages

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Marlian Music, Azeez Fashola (Naira Marley), and his close associate, Samson Eletu (Sam Larry), have approached a Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, to question their continued detention in police custody following the death of Lagos-based singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba (MohBad).

The legal offensive was instituted against the Lagos State Police Command and Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun of a Lagos State Magistrates' Court.

In their fundamental rights action, they are requesting compensation in the sum of N20m each from both the Magistrate and the Police.

Magistrate Olatunbosun had ordered the remand of Naira Marley and Sam Larry in police custody for 21 days over the death of 27-year-old MohBad who died earlier in September.

According to Olalekan Ojo (SAN), counsel for Naira Marley and Sam Larry, the musicians are asking the court to declare that their continued detention at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command, Panti, Yaba, Lagos State since October 4, 2023, constitutes a violation of their rights.

The duo equally insisted that Magistrate Olatunbosun directed their being remanded for only 21 days, and the period had elapsed.

Therefore, they want the court to issue an order for their release from detention forthwith.
