'Football lovers will see the best of football from the NPFL Championship play-off' – Elegbeleye

The Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), Gbenga Elegbeleye, on Friday, June 2, 2023, declared that football lovers will see the best of football coming from the league.

Elegbeleye's declaration came even as the 2022/2023 Nigeria Premier Football League Championship play-off, a.k.a. Super 6, kicks off today.

According to Elegbeleye, the development is coming owing to the financial support from GTI Asset Management and Trust Ltd as a strategic partner to the NPFL, even as he commended the investment company for its commitment to laying a strong foundation and transparent football ecosystem in the country using the Nigeria Football Fund (TNFF) as the vehicle in achieving the laudable dream.

Elegbeleye spoke during the unveiling of the new NPL logo and the NPFL Championship play-off draws at the GTI Headquarters in Lagos.

In his words: "The Championship play-off will see the best of Nigeria League football on display as the six teams will trade tackles in a round-robin format beginning from today, June 3 to June 11.”

He confirmed that the event will see the return of massive football celebration at the Centre of Excellence, especially on the side of the winning team, who will be returning home with the sum of N100m and the trophy.

On his part, the Group Managing Director (GMD) of GTI Group, Abubakar Lawal, revealed that the company is employing the best international practice to give Nigeria football a desirable breakthrough.

He said, "We at GTI are proud to associate with the Nigerian Premier Football League in the execution of this project, and we hope Nigerian football will grow from strength to strength, following the unveiling of the new NPL logo”.

Lawal further revealed that GTI is committing lots of material and financial resources towards ensuring that NPFL enjoys robust financial support to become self-sustaining with necessary measures to ensure transparency in all its dealings with investors, sponsors and other partners.

Meanwhile, from the draws, eight times champions, Eyimba is pitched against Remo Stars FC by 2 pm. Sunshine Stars will trade tackles with Rivers United by 4 pm while Bendel Insurance will slug it out with Lobi Stars by 6 pm, all in the match day one.
