The Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Ikeja, today, granted the motion ex-parte brought by the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in Lagos State, Gbadegbo Patrick Rhodes-Vivour, for substituted service on the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Rhodes-Vivour had confronted the outcome of the March 18, governorship election, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Sanwo-Olu as the winner.
During the Tribunal's proceeding, Rhodes-Vivour, alongside his party through their lawyer, Olagbade Benson, insisted that the incumbent governor had allegedly been evading service of the petition by a bailiff.
Benson specifically pointed accusing fingers at the governor for refusing to collect the document from the bailiff when the court official got to his office to serve him.
In his petition designated EPT/LAG/GOV/04/2023, the Plaintiff is asking the court to grant the “Petitioner/Applicant leave to serve the Petition and other processes in this suit on the Governor and his deputy through substituted means by posting same via DHL Courier Services or any other recognized courier service company to the Respondent’s official residence at Lagos House, Marina, Lagos.”
