Robbery: Nigerian Armed Forces Camouflages Admitted In Evidence



Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of an Ikeja Special Offences Court on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, admitted in evidence two Nigerian Armed Forces camouflage allegedly used by a dismissed soldier from the Nigerian Army, Mohammed Sanni and Umar Kabiru to rob one Phillip Agbe in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.


The judge equally admitted in evidence a knife allegedly used by the two defendants, as tendered by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).


According to the Police, the suspects were said to have robbed Agbe, while being armed with a knife, of a sum to the tune of N20,000.


It was also the contention of the Police that the defendants were wearing military uniforms on December 3, 2019, at about 0300 hours at Obanikoro along Ikorodu Road, Lagos.


They are standing trial over alleged conspiracy, armed robbery, and false representation of themselves as military personnel.


The defendants were brought before the court on three counts bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, and impersonation by the Lagos State Government.


While trial continued on the matter, an Inspector with the Police, Shedrach Eharbor, informed the court that both defendants; Mohammed Sanni and Umar Kabiru robbed the complainant while dressed in army camouflage with a knife and dispossessed Phillip Agbe of his money.


Being led in evidence by State Prosecutor, Adebanke Ogunde, the witness further stated that the knife was recovered from Kabiru Umar, and was half-dressed with a camouflage tee shirt and a trouser, while Mohammed Sanni (the first defendant) was completely dressed in army camouflage.


According to Shedrach Eharbor, “My lord, investigation revealed that on the 3rd December 2019, they were supposed to be three suspects.”


The witness identified one of the suspects this way, “Mohammed Sanni was a deserter since May 2018.


In noting that Kabiru (the second defendant) “was never a member of the Nigeria Airforces based on the letter we wrote to them,” he said the suspects specialises in dispossessing occupants of broken-down trucks.


The charge reads: “Mohammed Sanni (M) Umar Kabiru (M) Haruna Ahmed (M) are charged with conspiracy to commit robbery contrary to Section 299 of the Criminal Law, Ch. C17, Vol. 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. 


“Mohammed Sanni (M), Umar Kabiru (M), and Haruna Ahmed (M) on or about the 3rd day of December 2019 at about 0300 hours at Obanikoro Area, Ikorodu Road, Lagos, in the Ikeja Judicial Division did conspire to commit robbery. 


“Mohammed Sanni (M), Umar Kabiru (M), and Haruna Ahmed (M) on or about the 3rd day of December 2019 at about 0300 hours at Obanikoro n Ikorodu road Lagos, in the Ikeja Judicial Division whilst armed with a knife robbed one Phillip Agbe (M) of the Sum of N20,000,00(Twenty Thousand Naira) only, an offence contrary to Section 297(2) (a) of the Criminal Law, Ch. C17, Lagos State, 2015.


"That Mohammed Sanni (M), Umar Kabiru (M), and Haruna Ahmed on or about the 3rd day of December 2019 at about 0300 hours at Obanikoro Area, Ikorodu Road Lagos, in the Ikeja Judicial Division, whilst in Army Camouflage falsely represented yourselves as Military Personnel, an offence contrary to Section 77 of the Criminal Law, Ch. C17, Vol.3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015.


The case has been adjourned until April 11 and 12 for the continuation of trial.
