David Adeleke, eminently known as Davido, has made a further explanation as to how he arrived at the amount he received days before he celebrated his birthday.
Fielding questions from CNN through Zain Asher, the entertainer explained that the sum realised from a tweet was started as a joke.
According to Davido, “Naaaaa, I didn’t ask my friends to donate, it was like a joke. I was like if I ever made you go music, send me a million naira which is about $2200.
“So my friends started sending me money, after a while, I started seeing crazy amount of money in my account. I started seeing regular people, fans they started sending me money.”
It would be recalled that Davido had jokingly solicited funds on his social media pages. He had particularly stated that anyone who had listened to his hit songs should send him cash, after which he posted his account details online.
The entertainer had earlier explained that the money would go into clearing his Rolls-Royce at the port, setting the target at N100M.
He had tweeted: “If u know I’ve given you a hit song .. send me money …. una know una selves oo.”
But Davido had a change of mind and donated to charity all the N200million he received from fans and friends.
He went ahead to damage N50million of his own, to raise the total charity donation to N250 million.
The entire sum, Davido added, would go to orphanages across Nigeria.
