Iran’s Military Command Decapitated: Armed Forces Chief, Defence Minister Killed in Airstrike

TEHRAN — The Iranian government has confirmed a near-total collapse of its top military leadership following a series of precision strikes by the United States and Israel.

State-owned broadcaster Iran TV announced early Sunday that General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, was killed during a high-level meeting on Saturday.

The strike, which officials in Washington and Tel Aviv have dubbed “Operation Epic Fury” and “Lion's Roar” respectively, targeted a secure command centre where the nation’s defence council had gathered to coordinate a response to the initial wave of attacks.

Alongside General Mousavi, the following high-ranking officials were confirmed dead: Aziz Nasirzadeh (Minister of Defence and former Air Force commander), Mohammad Pakpour (Commander of the Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Ground Forces), Ali Shamkhani (Head of Iran’s Defence Council and long-time security strategist).
