Two years ago, Nigerian prophet Primate Elijah Ayodele listed several African countries and specifically warned that they should expect attempted military coups aimed at toppling their current governments.
He mentioned countries such as Guinea-Bissau, Uganda, Togo, Benin Republic, and others.
These were his words: “There is no way anyone can stop a coup in Africa. As long as leaders on the continent fail to do the right thing, coups will continue to occur.
“The following countries; Uganda, Togo, Benin Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Gambia, and Congo-Brazzaville, must tidy up and do what is necessary because a coup will soon happen in these countries.”
At the time he made this prophecy, many might not have paid attention. As is often the case, when prophets issue warnings to nations, people tend to dismiss them as attention-seeking.
However, the recent attempted coup in Guinea-Bissau against the sitting president has ultimately fulfilled Primate Ayodele’s prophecy made two years ago.
The government of Guinea-Bissau recently announced that it had successfully foiled an attempted coup just before the start of election campaigns scheduled for Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference in Bissau on Friday, Deputy Chief of Staff Mamadu Ture stated that the action aimed to disrupt the electoral process.
Ture identified Brigadier-General Daba Nawalna, director of a military training centre, as the alleged mastermind behind the plot.
This development serves as a wake-up call once again to nations, presidents, governors, and individuals who have been warned by Primate Ayodele, either recently or in the past.
Ignoring his prophetic messages has often proved costly. Time and again, his prophecies have been fulfilled, which many believe confirms their divine origin.
Primate Ayodele has consistently emphasised that he does not seek personal gain from his prophecies.
In fact, he has often expressed dismay when some of his warnings come to pass, lamenting that they could have been avoided if leaders had heeded them.
Similarly, he warned the Nigerian government to prepare against possible coup attempts targeting President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He issued these warnings in July 2024, reiterated them earlier in 2025, and again in October 2025, before security operatives reportedly took preventive measures.
Across Africa, several coups might have been averted if leaders had listened to Primate Ayodele’s counsel.
Unfortunately, many remain too engrossed with power to pay attention, until it is too late.
