Over 27,000 Widows Impacted as CBA Foundation Announces New Empowerment Conference

The Chinwe-Bode Akinwande (CBA) Foundation has announced plans to host a landmark conference dedicated to empowering widows and promoting social inclusion in Nigeria.

Themed ‘Empowering Widows in Nigeria: Breaking the Cycle of Poverty and Vulnerability,’ the conference is scheduled for October 9, 2025, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.

In a statement issued by Chinwe Bode-Akinwande, Founder, The CBA Foundation, the event will serve as a national platform to highlight the pressing challenges faced by widows, particularly those from marginalised communities, who continue to face isolation, neglect, and systemic discrimination.

She added that it will also explore innovative solutions such as skill acquisition, microfinance, impact investing, and advocacy to strengthen their economic and social resilience.

According to her, the conference was designed to drive conversations that lead to tangible change.

“Widows are often exploited, largely because of their vulnerability. Our mission is to empower them through strategic partnerships and capacity-building initiatives, amplifying their voices and strengthening their positions in society,” she stated.

The one-day event will feature a keynote address by Amina Oyagbola, Founder of Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR), and a plenary session moderated by Hansatu Adegbite, Executive Director of Women in Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ).

Attendees will include representatives from civil society, government, academia, and the private sector.

Participants will also engage in interactive discussions, share success stories from impact-driven programmes, and propose actionable solutions to uplift widows nationwide.

The conference will also call for collective responsibility among stakeholders to create sustainable support systems for widows and their children.

Since its establishment in 2015, the CBA Foundation has reached over 27,000 widows through empowerment programmes, health interventions, food distribution, business start-up assistance, and counselling.

The foundation has also sponsored over 100 underprivileged children in education and skill training, further demonstrating its long-term commitment to building stronger, more equitable communities.
