The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has shelved his plan to call witnesses in his defence in his ongoing trial for alleged terrorism offences.
Kanu informed the Federal High Court, Abuja, that after reviewing his case file, he has concluded that there are no valid charges against him.
The development came as Kanu was expected to open his defence before the court.
However, the IPOB leader argued that since he is convinced that there is no valid charge against him, there would be no need for him to present a defence.
Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the court, consequently advised Kanu to file a written address to that effect and serve the prosecution.
The judge also counselled Kanu to consult experts in criminal law on the implications of his decision.
The court adjourned the case until November 4, 5, and 6 for the adoption of final written addresses based on Kanu's position that the evidence presented, and the charge do not establish any case against him.
