Kidnap Kingpin Evans Re-arraigned for Alleged Murder of Two Police Officers

Convicted billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans, was on Monday re-arraigned before Justice Oyindamola Ogala of the Lagos State High Court over the alleged murder of two police officers.

The trial, which was transferred from Justice Adenike Coker's court, saw the state prosecution counsel, A.O. Azeez, appear on behalf of the Lagos State Government. Charity O. represented Evans, and L. C. Onyejiakor stood for his co-defendant, Joseph Ikenna Emeka.

Due to the transfer, Azeez requested the re-arraignment of the defendants, stressing that any prior plea bargain applications filed by Evans before the former judge were now irrelevant.

Evans and Emeka are facing an amended five-count charge encompassing murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit felony, to wit: kidnapping and attempted murder.

When the charges were read, both defendants entered a plea of not guilty.

The prosecution alleged that on August 27, 2013, around 10:00 p.m. along Third Avenue, Festac Town, Lagos, the defendants murdered two individuals: Peter Nweke and Chijioke Ngozi.

These offences contravene Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Evans, who is already serving multiple jail terms for previous convictions, still faces five separate criminal cases, including those for kidnapping and murder.

Justice Ogala adjourned the matter to November 19, 2025, for hearing and the issuance of a witness summons.
