In a robust demonstration of its enduring commitment to educational development and community empowerment, leading Pan-African Cement manufacturer Dangote Cement Plc has made a substantial, multi-million-naira donation of essential school materials to public schools across Lagos Island.
The initiative is a strategic move to foster academic success and propel societal progress among its host communities.
The donation, part of the Company's cherished annual Social Investments and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive, saw a huge consignment of supplies handed over to students in Education District III.
Representing the Group Managing Director, Arvind Pathak, the Group Head, Social Performance, Mr Wakeel Olayiwola, reiterated the company’s deep-seated dedication to empowerment through major school support.
Speaking at the twin-event held within the premises of Boys Junior Academy, Girls Junior Academy, Ebute Elefun Junior High School, and Epetedo Junior High School, all located on Lagos Island, Mr Olayiwola stressed the profound significance of the gesture.
"This event goes beyond just distributing school supplies; it reflects a deep-seated belief that every child deserves the tools to learn, grow, and dream.
“Education is the cornerstone of progress. It opens doors, builds character, and lays the foundation for a brighter future,” he stated.
To the immense delight of students and staff, the cement giant donated 1,000 school bags, 1,000 dozen 60-leaf notebooks, and 1,000 mathematical sets to the beneficiaries.
This significant volume of materials is designed to alleviate the financial burden on families and ensure students have the necessary resources for their studies.
Mr Pathak posited that the current effort builds on previous support in 2023 and 2024, which included crucial infrastructural and technological upgrades.
These earlier interventions involved the provision of solar inverters for computer rooms, school desks, desktop computers, and the renovation of vital facilities such as science laboratories and libraries in selected schools.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by many families and schools in providing adequate learning materials, the Dangote Cement Chief Executive affirmed the company's long-term vision.
“By supporting schools in our neighbouring communities, we are investing not only in the academic success of our children but also in the long-term prosperity of our society,” he noted.
Dr James Adenuga, Group Chief, HSSE & Sustainability, Dangote Industries Limited, further explained that the initiative is part of the company’s overarching strategy to identify and respond to the most pressing needs of communities nationwide.
“We go to where the biggest needs are, no discriminatory approaches. Over time, we have reached various communities across the country.
“This year, we focused on direct impact, touching students and their families, boosting their morale and giving them reasons to smile.
“What we are doing here today is replicated, in varying capacity, across our operating states,” Dr Adenuga explained.
He insisted that the company’s sustainability team consistently engages with key stakeholders, including schools, parents, and local authorities, to determine where interventions will have the most meaningful impact.
Addressing the excited students, Mr Pathak urged them to view the donated items as symbols of hope and encouragement.
“Use them well. Study hard. Dream big and know that you have a community that believes in your potential,” he charged, also commending the tireless dedication of the teachers and school administrators.
Principals of the beneficiary schools, including Mrs Bello Afolake of Girls Junior Academy, Mr Sobanke Rafiu of Boys Junior Academy, Mr Kayode Ajala of Ebute-Elefun Junior High School, and Mr Taiwo Fatai of Epetedo Junior High School, all expressed profound gratitude for the unprecedented volume of materials.
They collectively expressed hope that the enduring relationship with Dangote Cement would continue to support the educational capacity building of Lagos State and the development of the students as future leaders.
