SON Urges Nigerian Manufacturers to Emulate Dangote Cement’s Commitment to Excellence

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has lauded Dangote Cement Plc for its pivotal role in elevating Nigeria's manufacturing sector, urging other local manufacturers to emulate the company's commitment to best practices and operational excellence.

The commendation comes after the successful completion of an Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification Audit at the Dangote Cement Obajana Plant in Kogi State.

The comprehensive audit, conducted by a team of expert auditors from SON, assessed the plant’s adherence to stringent quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety standards.

Led by Ijeoma Nkechi Ohaemesi, the audit team praised Dangote Cement's management for its unwavering commitment to excellence and its continuous drive for improvement across all operational processes.

According to Mrs Ohaemesi, the certification process is designed to encourage deeper alignment with Management System Standards.

She applauded Dangote Cement's dedication, noting that the company’s efforts set a new benchmark for quality and innovation within the industry.

Sani Mikail, the ISO System Coordinator for Dangote Group, explained that the implementation of the ISO Management System across all Dangote Cement plants was an initiative approved by the company's President and Chief Executive, Aliko Dangote.

He noted that the system has been in place since 2010 and has consistently added value to the company’s processes.

Mr Azad Nawabuddin, the Obajana Plant Director, highlighted the tangible benefits of the IMS, particularly in facilitating the continual improvement of the plant's operations.

This sentiment was echoed by Kommineni Suresh, a company representative, who noted that the Obajana plant is among the first cement factories in Nigeria to achieve this prestigious certification, thereby setting a new standard for the industry.

Akindele Temitope, the IMS Team Lead at the Obajana Plant, attributed the successful certification to the collective dedication and teamwork of the staff, backed by strong management commitment.

She stated that this milestone would further enhance compliance, quality, and safety while improving communication and business focus.

"With this milestone, DCP Obajana reaffirms its position as an industry leader committed to excellence, sustainability, and global best practices,” Temitope declared.
