MAGGI August Meeting Empowers 8,100 Women Across South-Eastern Nigeria

In a vibrant fusion of culture and community empowerment, MAGGI, the flagship seasoning brand from Nestlé, has concluded its sponsorship of the 2025 August Meeting, a cherished annual tradition for Igbo women.

This year’s event, which took place across 18 locations in five South-Eastern states, reached more than 8,100 women, providing them with valuable resources in nutrition, culinary skills, and economic independence.

The August Meeting is a centuries-old tradition where Igbo women, both from within Nigeria and the diaspora, gather to discuss and plan for the social and economic development of their families and communities.

By partnering with this platform, MAGGI continues its deep-rooted connection with Nigerian women, who are central to the brand's purpose.

The events were designed to be more than just a celebration; they were an opportunity to equip women with practical knowledge and tools to improve family well-being and foster stronger, more resilient communities.

Funmi Osineye, MAGGI Category Manager at Nestlé Nigeria, highlighted the significance of the partnership.

"MAGGI has supported the August Meeting for several years, but this celebration comes at a time when women's empowerment, food security, and community resilience are more critical than ever.

"Beyond our products, this partnership allows us to provide women with fresh nutrition insights, new skills, and entrepreneurial support that strengthen families and uplift communities.

“This edition is not just about continuity; it is about honouring heritage and recognising the women who shape our society every day," she stated.

Adding to the sentiment, Victoria Uwadoka, Nestlé Nigeria’s Corporate Communications and Public Affairs Lead, underscored the company's pride in supporting the custom.

"We are proud to support this cherished custom that celebrates the contributions that women make to the socio-economic development of their communities.

"Partnering with the August Meeting allows us to honour women for the difference they make every day, while demonstrating our commitment to building stronger families and stronger communities," she said.

This year's edition also shone a spotlight on remarkable female leaders and emerging stars within the community, who were recognised with special awards for their contributions.

The celebrations were infused with a touch of celebrity glamour, with Nollywood stars Ngozi Nwosu, Blessing Obasi, and Uzo Osimkpa joining the events.

Their presence added vibrancy and cultural authenticity, embodying the strength and creativity of the Igbo woman.

Uzo Osimkpa, reflecting on her participation, shared a personal connection to the tradition.

"Growing up, I witnessed the significance of the August Meeting in Igbo culture.

"For my mother, it wasn’t just a tradition; it was a duty. Every year, she travelled back home to join other women in shaping community progress.

“To be a part of MAGGI's August Meeting is more than participation; it is a privilege, a way to honour my mother’s legacy, and a testament to the enduring strength of Igbo womanhood," she recalled.

The impact of the event was clearly felt by the women in attendance. One participant expressed her gratitude, saying, “I cannot remember the last time the values and importance of our beloved August Meeting received this much visibility.

“MAGGI has amplified our tradition, making it even bigger by adding training, recognition, and empowerment.

“Truly, this has been a remarkable August Meeting,” she added.

Through such initiatives, MAGGI continues to position itself as a supportive companion to Nigerian women, reinforcing its commitment to nurturing cultural heritage and empowering future generations.

The brand’s ongoing partnership with the August Meeting demonstrates a successful model of corporate engagement that blends cultural respect with practical community development.
