The remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have been flown from London to Daura, Katsina State, ahead of a state burial in his honour.
His body was transported aboard a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) aircraft early Tuesday morning, departing the United Kingdom before 8:00 a.m.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and other senior government officials accompanied the late leader’s body, which touched down in Nigeria amid heavy security and a solemn ceremony.
Buhari, Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, died in a London hospital at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, after a prolonged illness. The specific nature of the illness was not disclosed.
A state funeral is scheduled to take place in his hometown, Daura, later this week.
