Minister Urges Dangote Cement to Partner on Bridging Nigeria's Housing Deficit

The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has commended Dangote Cement Plc for its significant contributions to the Nigerian economy and urged the company to collaborate with the government in addressing the nation's critical housing shortage.

Speaking during a tour of Dangote Cement's exhibition stand at the ongoing 19th Africa International Housing Show (AIHS) in Abuja, Dangiwa acknowledged the cement giant's pivotal role in economic development.

He stated that his Ministry is actively seeking partnerships with companies like Dangote Cement to tackle Nigeria's estimated housing deficit of over 20 million units, a challenge largely driven by rapid urbanisation, a burgeoning population, and limited access to affordable housing.

"We recognise Dangote Cement's pivotal role in our economy and urge them to sustain these efforts," Dangiwa said, emphasising the need to extend the company's developmental impact to the housing sector to reverse the alarming gap.

Festus Adebayo, Coordinator of the Africa International Housing Show, reinforced the Minister's call, telling journalists that a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) approach is crucial to bridging the housing gap.

He encouraged private sector entities in Nigeria to consider housing provision as a key component of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) schemes.

Dangote Cement Plc is a major sponsor of this year's AIHS, which commenced on Monday at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.

Beyond sponsorship, the company is actively participating in the event, which brings together participants from 21 countries.

This provides a unique platform for Dangote Cement to connect with key players in the African housing industry.

A statement from Dangote Cement highlighted that the theme of this year's show, "Reimagining Housing Through Innovation, Collaboration and Policy," resonates deeply with the company’s core values.

Dangote Cement has scheduled Thursday, July 30, 2025, as its 'Special Day' at the exhibition, promising further engagement and insights into their contributions to the sector.
