Cleric in Court for Allegedly Breaching Peace, Encroaching on Land

Pastor Godwin Ikuru, founder of the Jehovah Eye Salvation Ministry and popularly known as Prophet Godwin, has been arraigned before the Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly trespassing on private property and conducting himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

The Nigeria Police Force, through its counsel, Morufu Animashaun, arraigned the Lagos-based cleric following investigations by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Team in Abuja.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offences took place on or about January 21, 2025, at No. 106, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja, where Pastor Ikuru allegedly entered a parcel of land legally owned by one Abibat Bankole-Apena without permission and interfered with its use.

The prosecution maintained that the acts violated Sections 52 and 340 of the Lagos State Criminal Code Law, Chapter C17, Volume 3, 2015.


GODWIN IKURU 


One of the charges read: “That you, Pastor Godwin Ikuru, unlawfully interfered with the use of a private property belonging to one Abibat Bankole-Apena and thereby committed an offence.”

Ikuru pleaded not guilty. The court, presided over by Chief Magistrate E. Kubeinje, granted him bail in the sum of ₦250,000 with two sureties in like sum, following an oral application by his lawyer.

The matter was adjourned to August 6, 2025, for mention.
