Dangote Cement is set to further solidify its position as Africa's leading cement producer with the commissioning of its 3 million tonnes every year (Mta) grinding plant in Côte d’Ivoire by the third quarter of this year.
This strategic expansion is expected to significantly strengthen the company's presence across the continent and boost its export capabilities.
Arvind Pathak, Chief Executive of Dangote Cement, conveyed this development in a note to the Nigerian Stock Exchange, pointing out the growth in the company's export business.
"Export volumes from Nigeria increased by 18.2%, with 18 successful clinker shipments made to Ghana and Cameroon.
“This demonstrates the growing importance of our pan-African footprint and our ongoing commitment to regional trade and self-sufficiency,” Pathak stated.
He also emphasised the company's focus on long-term value creation and its progress in optimising cost structures.
He revealed that Dangote Cement has begun the phased delivery of 1,600 additional CNG-powered trucks, a move anticipated to substantially reduce logistics costs and enhance environmental efficiency.
Commenting on the company's second-quarter financials, Pathak attributed the performance to Dangote Cement's resilience and adaptability amidst improving macroeconomic indicators.
He noted that the company's dedication to operational efficiency and cost containment is yielding tangible results.
"Group EBITDA rose by an impressive 41.8% to ₦944.9 billion, while Group profit surged by 174.1%.
"This remarkable performance is a testament to our disciplined execution, strong cost leadership, and the strategic investments we have made over the years, "Pathak said.
Dangote Cement boasts an impressive 52.0 Mta capacity across Africa, with 35.25 Mta located in Nigeria.
Its Obajana plant in Kogi state is the largest in Africa, featuring 16.25 Mta capacity across five lines.
Through its extensive investments, Dangote Cement has not only eliminated Nigeria's reliance on imported cement but has also transformed the nation into a significant exporter of cement and clinker to neighbouring countries.
The company also operates in several other African nations, including Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Ethiopia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia, reinforcing its continent-wide reach.
