A Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced Olukeye Adeayo Olalekan to 76 years imprisonment after finding him guilty on all 18 counts of cybercrime-related offences brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Presided over by Justice Alexander Owoeye, the court convicted Olalekan on a string of serious charges including child pornography, cyberstalking, money laundering, and obtaining property under false pretences.
Olalekan initially pleaded not guilty when first arraigned before Justice Y.G. Ringim on September 6, 2023.
The case was later reassigned de novo to Justice Kehinde Ogundare, and subsequently to Justice Owoeye.
During the trial, EFCC counsel, Bilkisu Buhari-Bala, presented five witnesses, including two investigators.
The prosecution revealed that the case originated from a report by the British Columbia Serious Crime Unit, investigating the murder of 14-year-old Robin Janjus.
Digital forensics on the victim’s phone linked suspicious social media accounts to Olalekan, prompting an undercover operation that uncovered his activities, the prosecution added.
The convict had impersonated a woman from North Carolina using platforms like Snapchat and Instagram to solicit nude photos from minors, blackmail victims, and carry out fraud via gift cards and cryptocurrency.
Justice Owoeye, finding Olalekan guilty on all counts, imposed a cumulative sentence of 76 years behind bars.
