As part of its N16 billion Annual National Food Intervention Programme, the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has donated 50,000 bags of rice to support vulnerable populations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kogi State.
The food relief initiative was flagged off on Tuesday in Abuja, where 10,000 bags of 10kg rice were handed over for distribution across the capital city.
Hajiya Fatima Wali Abdurrahman, Senior Special Adviser to the President of the Dangote Group, led the ceremony and emphasised that the programme aims to support government efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship on the poor.
“This intervention is one of our largest yet. Chairman Alhaji Aliko Dangote is deeply committed to giving back to society and supporting those in need, especially during these difficult times,” she noted.
She highlighted that the programme was first launched in 2024, with food donations worth N15 billion distributed across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.
Representing the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, at the flag-off, Ango Abdullahi Suleiman commended Dangote’s longstanding contributions to Nigeria’s economic development and assured that the rice would reach the intended beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, in Kogi State, the government received 40,000 bags of rice from the foundation.
The distribution began on March 26, 2025, under the supervision of the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hajia Rabietu Okute.
According to the Commissioner, the distribution was conducted in line with Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s directive, reaching all 21 Local Government Areas and the 239 political wards.
“We established committees of 12 members in each local government to ensure transparent and effective distribution.
“Special attention was given to vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities and the 23 registered orphanages in the state,” she said.
Okute praised the initiative, describing it as a “genuine act of compassion and philanthropy,” and extended gratitude to Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the meaningful support.
Speaking on behalf of the foundation in Kogi, Mr Ademola Adeyemi, General Manager of Community Affairs/Special Duties at Dangote Cement Plc, said the donation would further strengthen ties between the company and the state.
Managing Director and CEO of the Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to combating poverty and hunger.
“This initiative is our way of giving back and partnering with governments to reduce hardship and uplift communities,” she stated.
