Dangote Cement Shines as Platinum Winner at 2025 ICAN-NGX Corporate Reporting Awards

Dangote Cement Plc has emerged the Platinum winner at the prestigious 2025 ICAN-NGX Corporate Reporting Awards, a joint initiative of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and NGX Regulation Limited (NGX REGCO), recognising excellence in corporate governance, transparency, and sustainability reporting.

The award ceremony, held on April 15 in Lagos, celebrated companies that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to corporate reporting standards for the 2023 financial year.

Dangote Cement led the pack, clinching the top honour ahead of other industry giants such as MTN Nigeria, Seplat Energy, Stanbic IBTC Holdings, GTCO, Zenith Bank, United Bank for Africa, and International Breweries.

The assessment carried out under ICAN-NGX REGCO’s comprehensive guidelines, evaluated 30 listed companies across three weighted categories: financial reporting (35%), corporate governance (30%), and sustainability reporting (35%).

Companies were ranked under the Platinum, Gold, and Silver categories, with Dangote Cement securing the Platinum category as the highest-scoring organisation across all benchmarks.

According to the Assessment Panel, Dangote Cement excelled in all key parameters, demonstrating strong governance practices, transparency in financial disclosures, and an integrated approach to sustainability.

MTN Nigeria and Seplat Energy followed closely, winning the Gold and Silver categories, respectively.

ICAN President, Mr Davidson Alaribe, described the Platinum award as a mark of comprehensive excellence.

“This recognition is reserved for the top-performing organisation that addresses every element of sound corporate reporting.

Dangote Cement’s achievement underscores its leadership in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainability within Nigeria’s corporate space,” Alaribe stated.

He highlighted the increasing demand for corporate entities to go beyond financial disclosures, noting that stakeholders now expect robust reporting on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impacts.

“This global shift reflects a call for greater openness in business conduct, and the honourees here have gone above compliance to set benchmarks for trust, resilience, and sustainable growth,” he added.

Chief Executive Officer of NGX Regulation Limited, Mr Olufemi Shobanjo, echoed this sentiment, describing the awards as a platform to highlight companies that uphold global standards in corporate reporting.

“Effective corporate reporting fosters investor confidence, promotes accountability, and strengthens the capital market.

“Dangote Cement has exemplified all these through its remarkable performance,” he said.

Dangote Cement is Africa’s largest cement producer, with a total capacity of 52.0 million metric tonnes per annum (Mta) across the continent.

In Nigeria alone, the company boasts a combined production capacity of 35.25Mta across four major plants: Obajana in Kogi State (16.25Mta), Ibese in Ogun State (12Mta), Gboko in Benue State (4Mta), and Okpella in Edo State (3Mta).

Through significant investments and innovation, the company has eliminated Nigeria’s dependence on imported cement, transforming the country into a net exporter of cement and clinker to West African markets.
