INEC Debunks Rumours of Chairman Mahmood Yakubu’s Death

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed reports claiming the death of its Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

In a statement issued on Saturday by Rotimi Oyekanmi, the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, the commission confirmed that Professor Yakubu is alive and in good health.

“The public is advised to disregard the false reports suggesting that the INEC Chairman has died in London,” Oyekanmi stated.

The clarification comes in response to widespread rumours on social media and other platforms, alleging the passing of the electoral chief. INEC urged the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unsubstantiated claims.

Professor Yakubu continues to lead the commission in its mandate of overseeing Nigeria’s electoral processes.
