A former manager of First City Monument Bank (FCMB), Olufemi Olalekan Olushakin, alongside two others, Ayomide Akanbi and David Adewale, have been charged with conspiracy and armed robbery before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Olushakin, who is said to be currently at large, and his co-defendants allegedly carried out the robbery on December 13, 2024, at Global Signature Hotel, New Gbagi Road, Ibadan.
During the incident, the suspects, allegedly armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, reportedly robbed the hotel manager, Akinola Dare, of ₦2,140,000, the property of Global Signature Hotel Limited.
According to the police, the suspects forcefully disarmed the hotel’s security personnel, destroyed CCTV equipment, and coerced customers and staff at gunpoint to transfer money into Olushakin’s personal account.
The prosecutor, Inspector Kefas Usman, further revealed that the group seized POS machines, vandalized property, and took sales proceeds from the hotel’s cash registry.
The charges brought against the trio fall under sections 6(B) and 1(2) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act, Cap RII Vol. 14 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.
While Akanbi and Adewale were arraigned last Thursday and subsequently remanded at the Agodi Correctional Centre, Olushakin’s absence has prompted the Oyo State Police Command to place a ₦5 million bounty on him.
Chief Magistrate Giwa Babalola adjourned the case until January 29, 2025, for further mention.
Meanwhile, the police have urged the public to provide any information that could lead to Olushakin’s arrest.
