The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted bail to prominent Nigerian social media figure and crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky.
His release follows a high-profile arrest at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport, a situation that has captured significant public attention and sparked heated online debate.
Bobrisky’s legal troubles began when he was detained by EFCC officers late Thursday night while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight en route to London.
Following his arrest, he was swiftly taken to the EFCC’s headquarters in Abuja for questioning on allegations related to bribery and money laundering.
As news of the arrest broke, Bobrisky took to social media, sharing his side of the story in real-time.
In one post, he claimed he had sustained injuries during the confrontation with the EFCC officials, and he reached out to the public, saying, “Nigerians, help me, EFCC just arrested me. I’m badly injured.”
Confirming Bobrisky’s release on Saturday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the crossdresser had indeed been granted bail.
However, Oyewale refrained from providing further comments on the details surrounding the arrest or the allegations against Bobrisky.
Social critic, Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, released a voice note in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed he had paid EFCC officials a hefty sum of N15 million to drop the money laundering charges.
This claim quickly spread online, igniting public speculation over the validity of the bribery allegations and Bobrisky’s interactions with EFCC officials.
Meanwhile, Bobrisky has denied all bribery accusations in his official statement to the agency.
