Political Blindspot? Why Osun APC’s Refusal to Unite with Aregbesola Could Cost Them in 2026

By Adeosun Olashile

In a turn of events that has stirred political discourse in Osun State, Primate Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, issued a prophetic warning to the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun, urging unity with former governor Rauf Aregbesola to secure a win in the 2026 gubernatorial elections.

In a recent statement, however, Osun APC rejected this guidance outright, dismissing Ayodele as a "false prophet" and expressing staunch resolve to proceed without Aregbesola.

A Clash of Prophecy and Politics

The well-known saying, “What an elder sees sitting down, a child will not see even if he stands on an Iroko tree,” seems relevant in the current scenario as the party brushes off a prophecy rooted in experiences.

Primate Ayodele, whose prophetic voice has resonated across political arenas, warned that the APC could face another devastating defeat if they failed to reconcile with Aregbesola.

The APC, however, is defiant. In its response, the party referred to past elections, pointing fingers at Aregbesola’s role in the 2022 gubernatorial defeat of Gboyega Oyetola, the former governor.

According to the APC, Aregbesola’s alleged actions contributed to their loss, rendering him politically obsolete and unworthy of consideration.

“We reject Primate Ayodele’s fallacious prophecy aimed at causing unnecessary tension and friction within our party in Osun State,” the statement declared, criticizing Ayodele’s historical predictions and discrediting his prophecy as a disruptive influence.

The Record of Ayodele's Prophetic Warnings

Interestingly, Ayodele's critics often overlook the prophet's consistent accuracy on a range of political events.

For instance, Ayodele had previously warned of the economic hardships Nigerians might face under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

That prophecy has, arguably, found resonance in today’s economic challenges, as many Nigerians grapple with high inflation and cost-of-living increases.

Moreover, this isn’t the first time Primate Ayodele has spoken out about Oyetola’s political career.

In his 2021 publication, ‘Warnings to the Nations’, Ayodele predicted Oyetola’s failure if he did not rally the party’s key members and create unity among his supporters.

When those recommendations went unheeded, APC’s fragmented base ultimately contributed to Oyetola’s loss.

The primate’s message wasn’t simply based on past events but also intended as a prescient warning for future strategy.

Ayodele called on APC to avoid repeating past mistakes by bridging its internal divides, particularly with influential party members like Aregbesola, who previously held sway in Osun’s political landscape.

Ignoring Prophecy at Their Peril

Osun APC’s refusal to heed Ayodele’s advice underscores the party’s internal struggles and raises questions about the consequences of such decisions.

In his statement, Ayodele expressed concern over the party’s approach, particularly given the recent history.

He noted that Oyetola’s loss in 2022 may have been prevented if the former governor had paid attention to prophetic counsel, advising him to strengthen his alliances within the party and take strategic measures against internal sabotage.

The APC’s current stance, however, echoes past defiance, with Ayodele arguing that rejecting divine insights may once again pave the way to failure.

"What an elder sees while sitting down, a child will not see even if he climbs an Iroko tree,” he said, reinforcing the need for political humility and wisdom in navigating the upcoming elections.

Prophecy and Political Resistance: A Long-Standing Pattern

It’s worth noting that resistance to Primate Ayodele’s prophecies is not unique to the Osun APC. Figures such as former President Goodluck Jonathan, Andy Uba, and Donald Trump, among others, have publicly disagreed with Ayodele in the past, often dismissing his words as politically charged. However, many of these same figures later saw the reality of his predictions play out in various ways.

For the Osun APC, the rejection of Ayodele’s prophecy could signal another costly misstep if past trends are any indication.

A disregard for prophetic advice has, more than once, led political figures into setbacks or losses they might have otherwise avoided.

Unity or Repetition?

Ultimately, the decision lies in the hands of the Osun APC. Should they choose to incorporate Ayodele’s wisdom and work with Aregbesola, they may prevent a potential loss in 2026 and solidify their political standing.

However, if they persist in their current path, history suggests they risk another defeat, potentially affecting Oyetola’s political trajectory and influence.

In the end, whether Ayodele's warnings are heeded or dismissed remains a question for Osun APC to answer.

One thing remains clear: political history has shown the cost of ignoring counsel, and time will reveal whether the APC’s decision proves wise or whether they have, indeed, been “led to the pit.”
